Joe has the pool ready for swimming now. Of course, the water is really cold but that might feel pretty good later this week. It's supposed to get into the 90's by Friday.

"W.D.S." -- "wet dog syndrome!" Joe has the pool uncovered so Jessie, of course, gets in to cool off. Poor dog, she has so much fur that she gets overheated pretty quickly. She doesn't understand why we don't let her right back into the house though--we need to work on "dry off" so she doesn't come inside so drippy wet.

The girls started work today at the pool. They are three of only five returning pool staff--a lot of people aren't there this summer, including the manager and both assistant managers. It'll be different for them without Jay managing the pool. Today the weather was cloudy and cool, so it wasn't very busy. Hopefully they'll get everything figured out before the big weekend crowds.

We got a surprise delivery today--Irene sent us a bouquet of flowers for our anniversary! They are so pretty. I love the bright and cheery colors of the flowers. Now I just have to find a place to put them so Dexter won't eat them!

Food gets eaten a lot faster in the summer when all three girls are home for every meal. Hannah wanted to be sure to get the rest of her banana later today, so she wrote "Hannah's Banana" on the peel! I laughed and knew what my picture of the day would be.

It was all about the rain today. I can't believe how much it has rained this month! The backyard is a swamp and when the sun does come out, the grass and weeds grow like crazy. I hope it drys out pretty soon so that I can get outside to pull some weeds. Not my favorite job, but man, it's starting to look like a jungle out there! (Right now it's more of a rainforest.)

Joe, Becca and Emma said a quick goodbye to Grandma and Grandpa this morning and then had a short visit with Grandma Irene before heading out. They stopped in Iowa City for breakfast at the Hamburg Inn with Suzi and then hit the road for Omaha. Joe snapped a picture of Adventureland as Becca drove past. He also got pictures of the sign for Dexter, windmills, clouds, an oil pump, corn field...

"Exhausted!" That's the text message that I got from Joe when Emma finally arrived in Chicago. She had a very long trip--Athens to Dublin then New York and finally Chicago. Then they had to get her suitcase and drive back to the Quad Cities in stormy weather. I haven't figured out how many hours she was up, but Mom said they were all like zombies when they arrived around 12:30a.m. I'll get to see everyone tomorrow afternoon.

This is the last picture of our Ginger kitty. We said goodbye to her today. She was a sweet cat and so very soft. She loved to sleep on your bed or your lap and knew she had a great life in the house--she never tried to go outside. She liked dragging socks or stuffed animals around at night. She could meow pretty loudly with something in her mouth! Usually by 10:00 she would start letting us know that she wanted someone to go to bed--she wanted to cuddle up next to you. We'll miss you, sweet kitty.

Joe and Becca took Irene over to her condo and helped her go through things there today. She wants to put the condo on the market.

Becca's stuff is all loaded up and she's ready to go. Becca had already gotten everything out of her room and was waiting outside when Joe arrived, so it was an easy move for Joe! Just throw the things into the van and off they went. Becca won't be back at Luther until her senior year--that seems weird!

Joe took off early today to mow the grass and get a few things done. He is leaving tomorrow morning to pick up Becca in Decorah and then Emma in Chicago on Sunday. They will be back home on Monday.

I came home from work at Bag n'Save to a great smelling house! Hannah had decided to make chocolate chip cookies for the kids in orchestra. They are playing for Senior Honor's Night tomorrow night. Luckily Hannah made a big batch of cookies so there were some left over for us!

Joe and I went to John and Eileen's daughter's graduation party this afternoon. It was good catching up with them again. Joe sees them both at work, but I don't talk to them very often. We used to get together every weekend, but then kids, jobs, yard work...

Our heat wave only lasted 2 days--then the rain came. This page from Joe's calendar is prefect for today. You can't see the muddy paw prints on the window too well in this picture, but those big Ted feet get mud on the windows, floors, carpet...

Heat Wave! It was 96 degrees outside today when I got home from work. We turned on the air conditioner yesterday--it was 97 then. I can't believe that it was in the 50's last week!

The rose that Hannah gave me at the swim meet on Mother's Day has opened up and is so pretty. I thought it was dead after being in the heat that morning, but Joe trimmed the stem and put it in some water and it was fine. I took this picture this morning--good thing, because Dexter must have thought the rose was pretty too; he ate it today while I was at work! Crazy cat.
