Hannah showed a beagle named Amy in the parade of "adoptable dogs" at this morning's Walk for the Animals fund raiser for the Humane Society.  I went over to check it out (and to get my picture) but didn't take the dogs.  I think it would have been too much for them to manage.  Lots of people were there as well as lots of dogs.

Hannah went to cross country practice this morning, ate a quick breakfast and then went to the car wash fund raiser for MOST.  She probably could have used a quick rinse herself!  Good thing it wasn't too hot outside today.

There's no school tomorrow for the kids (I have to go to a meeting) so the girls cross country team is having a sleepover tonight.  I doubt if there will be much sleep going on though!  This is actually a picture from the last "sleepover" they had--that night they kidnapped the freshmen.  I'm pretty sure that I heard something about tp'ing the boys' houses when the girls were planning tonights party.  Good thing they have a long weekend.

I was finally able to talk to Becca this morning on skype.  She surprised me by calling while I was on facebook.  I was so excited to talk to her that I forgot to take a snapshot of her during our conversation.  This is a picture of her taken during their first excursion last week.  She's the same old Becca, only now she's in England!

This afternoon was the Creighton Prep Invite XC meet.  In this picture Hannah is almost to the finish line and she's starting to sprint.  She passed two of these girls and finished right next to Lauren (in the Burke jersey).  She was tired of hearing her coach tell her that she needed to "get those girls!"  It must have motivated her, because she got a new personal best time of 17:24.  She says at the next meet she'll pass Lauren too!

I was able to "skype" with Emma for the first time today.  It was nice to talk/see her like that.  We were also hoping to talk to Becca but she is having computer problems.  Hopefully that will be fixed soon so we can all talk together.  Sometimes technology is fun.

We've seen a lot of Hannah practicing this summer and fall.  All of her hard work is paying off--she's 2nd chair this year in the orchestra!  She was pretty excited to find that out this week and has been continuing to practice.  Now she's also working on her music for the All State try outs.  I'm really proud of her!

Joe and I went to Ron and Teresa's daughter's wedding this afternoon.  I admit that I wasn't looking forward to going because I really didn't know anyone, but it was a nice time and I'm glad that we went.  I guess I'm getting to be more like Dad all the time!  (love you, Dad)

Hannah had a meet in Norfolk today.  The team got out of school at 11:30 and weren't back until after 9:00.  I wasn't able to go to the meet, so this is the only picture that I have for this meet.  Hannah ran pretty well though, and more inportantly, they had fun afterwards at a boys & girls cross country teams "bonding event!"

Hannah ran in the Class of the Metro today for cross country.  Each grade runs rather than girls and boys varsity and jv.  Hannah finished 9th in the junior girls.

It was Burke's homecoming tonight and Hannah went over to her friend, Anna's house to get ready.  Anna's mom, Karen was nice enough to take pictures for us.  The girls have been friends since kindergarten.  They look so grown up now!

Joe and Becca stopped at Grinnell to see Emma on their way to Decorah today.  The three of them went out for lunch and then a trip to WalMart.  I'm glad the girls got to spend a little time together today. (But I'm just a little jealous!)

Hannah said an enthusiastic goodbye to Becca tonight before she went to bed.  She will be off to school tomorrow morning before Bec gets up so they said goodbye until Christmas tonight.

Hannah and Becca got home from work and promptly asked me to go to Fazoli's with them...so, of course, we did.  We tried to take a self-portrait outside (with the sign in the background) but the sun was in our eyes.  This is the best of three attempts.  Becca thinks that Hannah looks like she's sneezing!

The Burke Invite was this morning at Walnut Grove park.  We had lots of rain last night and more rain this morning, so the park was very wet and muddy.  The meet got started on time though, and at least it wasn't too hot.  Hannah ran varsity, finishing with an 18:17.  She wanted to go under 18:00, so she was a little disappointed.  She's hoping that will happen next weekend at the Central Invite.  I thought she ran very well.  She finished 35th overall in the varsity race and was the 3rd Burke varsity girl to finish.

Hannah was able to get a sub for work so that she could go to Burke's first home football game tonight.  She met up with some friends at the game.  It was "western night."  I'm not sure what's going on in this picture, I'm just glad that she thought to bring her camera.  There weren't any pictures of the game though!  At half time the game had to be suspended due to lightning, so they'll finish it up tomorrow.  As of tonight, #2 Burke was winning against #1 Millard North!

Tonight was the first pre-meet team dinner for Hannah's cross country team.  Chris Moore and I made the dinner at their house.  The girls got there earlier than we expected, but otherwise it went smoothly.  We had plenty of food for everyone.  I did end up with a lot of extra salad, so I know what we'll be eating at home for the next few days!
